The Heart of Illinois Chapter is an affiliate of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). 

MOAA and its affiliated councils and chapters are non-partisan.

MISSION

The mission of Heart of Illinois Chapter is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors, and to advocate for a strong national defense, while providing support to the community and programs to grow our members.

Program: “Sisu: Finland’s Defense since 1917”

Finnish history during the last 100 years has reinforced the notion of Sisu as a particularly Finnish trait. Following1940 Winter War, Finland honorably paid in full its reparations to the Soviet Union,  despite the great hardship this imposed on the nation, so avoiding  further threats to its independence. Sisu captured the sentiment of the country’s honorable survival. Come learn about Sisu.
Guest Speaker: David Thompson

Professor and Teaching Chair of History IL Central College
Professor Thompson has been teaching Western Civilization, World Civilization, and International Studies courses for almost thirty years. He graduated high school in Morton, Illinois, received his Undergraduate Degree from Augustana College and went on to earn a Masters Degree from Illinois State University, and Doctor  Degree at Ohio State University, specializing in Military History Central College, History Chair
